The CM made these announcements at the ceremonial parade held on Wednesday to mark the foundation day of Homeguards and Civil Defence.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhami said that in addition to contributing to maintaining the law and order in the State, he had also seen Homeguards jawans facilitating traffic management and civil defence in hot weather, rain and chilling cold. “Whether it be the Covid-19 pandemic, some VIP programme or the Kanwad Yatra or other big events, Homeguards jawans discharge their duties with a commendable attitude. They are also contributing to the development of the State. The State government has also approved the procurement of pistols and other small weapons for the Homeguards.

A facility like the CSD canteen provided to army jawans has also been started for Homeguards this year, for which special cards are being made for the Homeguards. Uttarakhand is the first State in the nation to start this app. Another historic step has been the decision taken by the State government to provide maternity leave to women Homeguards,” the CM said.

He further said that a total of six months of medical leave has also been recommended for Homeguards volunteers during their entire service tenure. For the first time in Uttarakhand self defence training has been provided to women and men Homeguards. The departmental Maska Baaza band has also been formed this year while the Homeguards help desk is also doing good work. Dhami further said that the recruitment process of 350 women Homeguards has been completed in the State and they will soon join the organisation after training. Preparations are now being made for the recruitment of 300 male Homeguards. He assured that the government will do what is necessary to ensure a better life for Homeguards.
