Encouraged by what it claims to be the positive response it received from the electorate of Uttarakhand in the assembly elections, the state unit of Congress party has intensified its membership drive. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal said on Wednesday that the new membership drive would be in digital mode. He claimed that the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has expressed its happiness on the success of the membership drive undertaken ahead of the assembly elections in the state. He said that a sum of Rs five is charged from the new members and the state unit of the Congress party submitted the portion of the AICC by giving a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to it. Godiyal said that AICC has now asked the Uttarakhand Congress to continue the drive and make the members by digital means. “It will bring more transparency in the drive as digital records are very reliable. Making new members is a continuous process and the Congress party has also undertaken the drive,’’ he said.

On the question of setting up contacts with possible winners among the independents and those belonging to smaller parties in the likelihood of a hung assembly Godiyal said that such need would not arise as the Congress party is headed for a big victory in the assembly elections.
