On the call given by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, the workers of the Congress party held a state-wide protest against the decision of the State government to reduce the liquor prices on Wednesday. In Dehradun the Congress party leaders and workers led by Mahanagar president Jasvinder Singh Gogi held a demonstration at Prem Nagar Chowk on the day. An effigy of the State government was also burnt in the protest.

Speaking on the occasion, Gogi said that the State government is taking strange decisions to hide its financial mismanagement. He said that at a time when the people of the State are reeling under the increase in prices of cooking gas, edible items and other things the State government is trying to increase the sale of the liquor by reducing its price. Gogi said that it is unfortunate that from April 1, when the prices of liquor would get reduced by Rs 150 to 200 per bottle the people of the State would have to pay more for drinking water.

Terming the State government as anti people, the Congress leader said that Uttarakhand is the State where a ‘ Nasha Nahi Rojgar Do’ ( give employment not addiction) movement was launched by the women of the State. The State government has now adopted a policy ‘ Rojgar Nahi Nasha do’ ( give addiction not employment) policy, he said.

The Congress leaders said that the party would continue to protest against this policy of the State government.
