Traffic police to use drones to tackle traffic issues in Doon

The traffic police in Dehradun are planning to use drones and other online technologies to manage traffic-related issues including imposing penalties on those guilty of traffic violations across the city. The police have also started traffic monitoring in the city with the help of two drones as a pilot project.

The officials informed that drones are being used to inspect an area and imposing penalties based on aerial photography of vehicles in no parking zones. The officials informed that the traffic police are also in talks with three big companies including Google Maps regarding real-time imaging of the traffic in the city to monitor real-time traffic situations on any route at any time. Regular current traffic updates will help the authorities to take action besides updating the traffic status online in the Google map system so that commuters can commute as per the traffic.

Any change in usual traffic like routes diversion due to processions and rallies or any other matter will be updated live with the help of drones and aerial mapping, stated the officials. The superintendent of police (traffic) Akshay Konde said that the traffic police are planning several initiatives including the use of online technologies to monitor and tackle traffic issues across the city and their successful implementation will certainly improve the traffic conditions here. The police are expected to use these technologies to monitor traffic in the city from next month.
