The Udham Singh Nagar police arrested a guest house owner Indrapal Sukhija in Rudrapur on Thursday night for allegedly pushing a woman belonging to Rajasthan into sex trade. The local police have been conducting inspections of several guest houses and resorts and acting strictly on complaints against them in many districts of the State to ensure they are being run legally, especially after the murder of 19-year-old Ankita Bhandari from Pauri who was allegedly killed by the owner of a resort last month where she worked as a receptionist.

The police informed that the anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU) of Udham Singh Nagar received a complaint that some suspicious activities were being done in Desire Guest House located at Kashipur Road in Rudrapur late on Thursday night. The authorities acted on the complaint and raided the premises of the guest house the same night. The police said that AHTU officials found a young woman locked in one of the rooms of the resort during the raid. The police said that according to the woman’s statement, she is a native of Rajasthan and the owner of the resort Indrapal Sukhija had called her in Kashipur on the pretext of giving her a valid job. When she arrived, he sexually assaulted her and started forcing her to have sexual relationships with his customers, as per the victim, added the police. The police said that the management of the guest house also failed to produce any valid document regarding the establishment before AHTU. Considering the alleged offences, the police registered a case against the accused under several relevant sections and arrested him. The police said that the authorities will also carry out necessary medical tests of the woman to proceed further in the investigation.
