Ahead of the elections of the urban local bodies, the general secretary of Uttarakhand Congress Navin Joshi will organise public interaction programmes in all the 100 wards of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).  In these programmes he will seek public support for the Congress party. Interacting with the mediapersons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Friday, Joshi said that former mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ was accused of having properties in excess of his known sources of income but these charges were not investigated by the government. Similarly, the budget worth crores of rupees was hushed up in the name of Smart City project, he alleged.

Joshi said that during the  global investors summit, crores of rupees were spent on the beautification of LIC building in Dehradun which is a dilapidated building that will be dismantled. He demanded that an investigation should be ordered in the case and the government should recover the amount from the officers and politicians involved.

Joshi said that roads and drains of Dehradun were excavated in the name of Smart City project. The rainy season is about to start and the government has made no arrangements to prevent the spread of dengue.

He said that the government had assured that tax will not be imposed on the residents of new wards for a period of 10 years but now commercial tax is levied on the residents.

Joshi claimed that the employees sent by the MCD for assessment of tax were seen demanding money from the people. Such corrupt practice cannot be done without involvement of MCD officers, he said.

The Congress leader said that the ruling BJP is frightened by the elections due to which names of people in the areas where Congress is strong have been struck off from the voters list. He claimed that afraid of the impending defeat, the BJP wanted to postpone the municipal elections.

The spokesperson Ashish Nautiyal, Mahendra Singh Negi, Upendra Thapli, Gopal Singh Gadia, Mohan Kala and others were present on the occasion.
