FDA issues notice to oil manufacturing unit for discrepancies

The Food Safety department along with Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) conducted raids on cooking oil  manufacturing and repackaging units in Dehradun on Thursday. The authorities have also issued notices for the irregularities found in the units.

The district food safety officer of Dehradun PC Joshi informed that on the instructions of FDA commissioner Pankaj Pandey, a campaign has been started with the aim of ensuring that the local people get good quality food items which are used on a daily basis. The teams of FDA and Food Safety department have also collected samples of food ingredients like wheat flour, spices, pulses and honey earlier this week in the city. On Thursday, the teams raided five cooking oil repackaging and manufacturing units located in Patelnagar area of the city. Joshi said that the team conducted the tests for quality assurance and also took eight samples of oils which have been sent to the state lab. Besides this, he said that the teams also found discrepancies in four oil mills regarding the poor hygiene conditions and information displayed on packages. Due to this, the authorities have issued a notice to improve the said conditions within two weeks or action will be taken against them under the Food Safety Standards Act.

The authorities also directed the operators to undergo one day training through an agency authorised by the Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) which is mandatory for food business operators .

The district food safety officer of Rudraprayag, Manoj Semwal, senior food safety officer of Pauri Garhwal, Rachna Lal and senior food safety officer of Dehradun Ramesh Singh and Yogendra Pandey were also present during the inspection.
