Five more electric buses launched in Dehradun

Five electric buses on the ISBT-Sahastradhara route and four smart toilets were inaugurated under the Smart City mission by Urban Development minister Prem Chand Agrawal and Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ in the presence of Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) chief executive officer Sonika here on Thursday. The smart toilets were inaugurated at Parade Ground (Pant Road), old Tehsil campus, Sabzi Mandi and ISBT.

With the flagging off of five more electric buses in the city, there are a total of 20 electric buses operating in Dehradun under the Smart City mission. The buses launched on Thursday will cover the route with a one-way distance of 21 kilometres with 37 stops. The minimum fare for travelling in these buses has been fixed at Rs 10.The operation of the electric buses is aimed at providing and encouraging better public transport sans air and noise pollution in the provisional State capital. Apart from the buses launched on the ISBT-Sahastradhara route, DSCL is already operating 15 electric buses on the ISBT-Rajpur Road, ISBT- Raipur and airport routes. Through these buses, the DSCL has earned revenue of about Rs 1.91 crore in two years. Between 2,500 to 3,000 people are travelling in electric buses in the city on a daily basis, according to DSCL officials.

Apart from the buses, seven smart toilets have been constructed in the city so far. These smart toilets have separate sections for females, males and the differently abled and include various features.
