Former chief minister Harish Rawat has resolved to undertake a campaign to connect people with the Congress party. In an attempt to make his stand clear on his future role in the party, Rawat has said that he wants to hold ‘Join Congress Yatras’ in the State.  In a post on social media, the former CM said that he wanted to dedicate the remaining part of his life to the Uttarakhand Congress and for the Almora- Haridwar area.

He said that earlier he had made a plan to make Delhi as base of his activities and  to connect with migrant Uttarakhandis, old associates in trade unions and employee organizations in Delhi. Rawat said that he found this task difficult due to financial and other constraints.

“I have again revised my determination and have decided to limit myself to Uttarakhand and act as a reserve or player on call. I want to dedicate the rest of my life to Uttarakhand Congress and Haridwar-Almora areas. I want to start the “Join Congress Yatra” in the first phase.’’ he said.

The statement of Rawat that he intends to serve Uttarakhand and be a reserve player underlies his intention to remain active in the politics of the State. His activities in Haridwar district including the recent Dharna in support of sugarcane farmers underlies his intention to contest from the constituency which brought him out of political wilderness in the year 2009. Rawat won from this seat in 2009 and became a cabinet minister in the Manmohan Singh government and later the chief minister of Uttarakhand. Incidentally his daughter represents Haridwar rural constituency in state assembly. His candidature is being opposed vehemently by former cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat who has expressed his wish to contest from Haridwar.
