The police have started taking action against the schools in Dehradun city which failed to cooperate with authorities to manage traffic outside their schools during peak hours. The Dehradun superintendent of police (traffic) Akshay Konde informed that the traffic police had identified 12 bottlenecks in the city that obstruct traffic and had sent notices to heads of schools under these areas that cause the most traffic during peak hours seeking their cooperation to manage the traffic. The police have asked the school administrations to ensure all vehicles of students or parents are parked inside the school premises. The police have sent notices to all these schools to comply with the order and started taking action from Monday against those who fail to comply with it. The SP (traffic) along with his team arrived in Saint Joseph’s Academy and removed all barricades placed at several places outside the school hindering paths of parents to use the parking facility available in the school premises. The officials also made the school administration open their gates to allow the entry of vehicles for parking.

Some parents also complained to the police that the school does not allow their vehicles inside the premises despite having proper parking arrangements. They said that they have to bear with the misbehaviour of security personnel of the school and if they insist on parking inside, they are afraid that their children would have to bear the brunt of the security personnel. Many parents also said that due to the rush and crowded space outside the school, they have to park their vehicles quite far from the school despite having proper parking arrangements inside the premises due to which, they have to cross busy roads during rush hours along with their young children that feels risky at times.

Konde said that parents appreciated this initiative of proper parking inside the school premises which is safe and secure. He said that the proper parking of vehicles led to considerable decline in the traffic jams on Rajpur Road that generally occur during school hours.

Konde said that the traffic police will regularly conduct such inspections to ensure school administrations have made proper parking arrangements in their premises for students and parents. He also appealed to the students and parents to park their vehicles in designated areas like inside the school premises or valid parking areas to avoid penalties by the police.
