The Dehradun police have arrested four travel agents from Haridwar for providing fake online registrations to pilgrims undertaking the Char Dham Yatra. The Dehradun police have so far arrested eight travel agents of Delhi, Noida and Haridwar while also registering a total of 35 cases against such agents for fake registrations of the pilgrims undertaking the Yatra.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh has instructed personnel at the temporary checking centre at Vikasnagar to check the registration of pilgrims properly. While checking the online registration documents of pilgrims on the Tourist Care Uttarakhand application on May 24, some of the registrations were found to be fake. Cases were registered against the travel agents and those who did the fake registrations. The police team arrested travel agents Rishabh Gulati, Ashutosh, Bhupesh Sharma and Neeraj Kumar from Haridwar for the fake registrations. According to the police, the accused had done the online registration of 27 people from Gujarat and 22 from Rajasthan for the Badrinath-Hemkund Sahib pilgrimage. They allegedly undertook registration from the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board website, used the same QR code and placed the fake QR code using cut-copy-paste to provide the registration slip to the pilgrims.  They marked a fake date of pilgrimage on the registration slip. The pilgrims believed the registration slips to be authentic and began their pilgrimage accordingly, the police added.
