With the number of people undertaking the Char Dham Yatra steadily increasing, the total number of pilgrims who have undertaken the Yatra so far has crossed 11 lakh. According to official statistics, since the reopening of Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri on May 10 and Badrinath on May 12, till Sunday evening, a total of 11, 54,035 people had visited the Char Dham.

As per the official data, the highest number of pilgrims have visited the Kedarnath temple in Rudraprayag district. While 19,716 visited the temple on Sunday, a total of 4,87,623 people have visited this temple so far. In the Chamoli district, 17,316 people visited Badrinath temple on Sunday while a total of 2,57,575 have visited the temple so far. Similarly in the Uttarkashi district, 11,150 people visited Yamunotri temple and 11,200 visited Gangotri temple on Sunday. A total of 2,08,644 people have visited Yamunotri while 2,00,193 people have visited the Gangotri temple so far.

It is pertinent to mention here that more than 56 lakh people had visited the Char Dham shrines during the previous year. The State government expects this record to be broken this year before the temples are closed to the public during the winter. With more than 11 lakh people having visited the Char Dham in little more than a fortnight after their reopening, the authorities and pilgrims are also facing challenges posed by the large number of people making their way to these Himalayan temples.
