Police seize 23 liquor boxes smuggled into Doon from HP

The police on Sunday seized 23 boxes of liquor during intensive checking in an interstate border area. The officials suspect that the liquor was being smuggled from Haryana via Himachal Pradesh. The officials said that the police have increased checking of border areas in Dehradun after the recent inspection by the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh in Vikasnagar and Sahaspur police stations. As per his directions, regular intensive checking is being carried out consistently in the border areas. During checking at the Kulhal post in Vikasnagar area on Sunday, when the police tried to stop a car arriving from Himachal Pradesh for checking, the driver drove away. The officials said that the police started chasing the vehicle and finally caught it four kilometres away. However, the driver and another man sitting in the car were able to escape from the spot. They said that police found 23 boxes of liquor including 15 boxes of liquor and eight boxes of beer of a brand from Haryana. The police have registered a case against the accused in the Vikasnagar police station. The SSP said that the police are investigating the matter and will act accordingly. He said that the officials concerned have also been instructed to strengthen the security of the district’s border areas by installing CCTV cameras to ensure police can easily monitor criminal activities and nab the offenders.
