Punia starts fire-fighting mission in Congress

Sunday, 16 April 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

Amid intensified infighting in the State unit, the senior leader of Congress party, PL Punia arrived in Dehradun on Saturday. The party high command of Congress has sent Punia as an observer to look into the ongoing war of words among senior leaders which escalated recently after the statements of former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh, senior leader Tilak Raj Behed and MLA Madan Bisht. After meeting the senior leaders of the party and members of the party’s organisation in the State, Punia would submit a report to the party high command. The party would take action on the issue on the basis of his report.

Punia is accompanied by the in-charge of the Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav. The senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress welcomed Punia on his arrival at Dehradun airport. After his arrival Punia went into a huddle with the senior leaders of Uttarakhand Congress which included the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara, former chief minister Harish Rawat and leader of opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Yashpal Arya. He evaded the questions of the media persons on the purpose of his mission.  Punia would also meet former PCC president Pritam Singh to hear his grievances. The observer of the party high command is expected to meet district presidents, party office bearers and head of frontal organisations on Sunday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pritam Singh is consistently targeting the in charge of Uttarakhand Congress Devendra Yadav and has even termed him a political novice. Singh is consistently training his guns on Yadav.  He said that the person in charge of the State unit should be a politically mature person and not someone who doesn’t know the ABC of politics.

Apart from Singh, the recent utterances of the senior leader of the party from Terai region Tilak Raj Behed are also creating uncomfortable situations for the party leadership. He has recently raised questions on regional imbalance in Uttarakhand Congress by stating that all three important positions in the party are being occupied by the leaders of Kumaon region. He has also blamed the leadership of the State unit for ignoring him. Party MLA Madan Bisht recently created an uncomfortable situation for the party by openly supporting the decision of the State government to demolish the illegal mazars.
