Om Birla to inaugurate programme of panchayat representatives

The Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla would inaugurate a programme for the panchayat representatives of different parts of the country in Dehradun on January 8. In the programme these representatives would be informed about the democratic procedures and programmes of the parliament. The speaker of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha Prem Chand Agarwal would be the chief guest on the occasion.

The programme titled , ‘ Panchayati Raj institutions- the empowerment of decentralised democracy’ would be organised under the joint aegis of the Parliamentary democracy research and training institute, Lok Sabha secretariat and the Panchayati Raj department of Uttarakhand.

The Secretary Panchayati Raj Harish Chandra Semwal met the speaker Agarwal on Wednesday and invited him for the event. Agarwal said that the initiative for the programme of panchayat representatives was taken by the Lok Sabha speaker. He said that in the year 2019, Uttarakhand successfully hosted a programme of presiding officers of different assemblies of the country and Birla was instrumental in organising the event. The programme would be attended by the representatives of three tier Panchayati Raj system.
