Some members of the BJP and others were detained for taking out a procession in Landhaura on Sunday despite imposition of section 144 following disturbance in the town a few days ago.

Earlier on Friday, during a Valmiki Jayanti procession, the atmosphere in the Landhaura area had deteriorated slightly due to the confrontation between the police and workers of BJP and another organisation. The authorities imposed section 144 in Landhaura to prevent the situation from deteriorating. On Friday, the district administration officials and police had a talk with senior BJP leaders stating that a new tradition cannot be started in the area. However, workers of the BJP and another organisation had sought permission to take out a procession on Sunday, which was denied by the authorities which also imposed section 144 in the area. On Saturday itself, adequate police force was deployed in the town while on Sunday senior officers of the police and district administration also camped in the town.

Roorkee sub divisional magistrate Vijay Nath Shukla said that no event would be allowed at any cost.  Stating that nobody will be allowed to disturb the peace, he said that activity in the market area was also limited compared to other days due to imposition of section 144. The police are also monitoring the internet and social media.
