Considering the factors affecting the supply of gas and coal, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has stressed on the need for power consumers to adopt measures for avoiding wastage of electricity.

According to information provided by the corporation, there is a major gap between the demand and supply of electricity due to rising heat and the unprecedented rise in rates of gas and coal due to international issues. The estimated demand for electricity on May 1 is 45.57 Million Unit (MU) while the total availability from the central pool is 32.13 MU.

The total gap in the electricity availability is 13.34 MU. To ensure supply of electricity to the consumers, the authorities have arranged to purchase 13.66 MU electricity through the energy exchange. The electricity supply situation in the State is expected to remain normal barring unavoidable circumstances.

Considering these factors, the UPCL has once again appealed to the consumers of power and people of the State to use electricity frugally as far as possible and cooperate in the interests of the nation and the State.
