Minister to abstain from Tehri lake festival

Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat will be inaugurating the two-day Tehri lake festival on Tuesday. Meant to be a celebration of India’s diverse cultural heritage and adventure, the annual event is being organised by the Tourism department.

However, the State’s Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaaz has decided to abstain from participating in the event as an expression of condolence for the lives lost in the recent disaster in Chamoli. The minister said that a number of people had lost their lives in the disaster even as the recovery of bodies from the tunnel is continuing. Stating that he is sad due to the disaster, Maharaaz said that he will not attend the Tehri lake festival.
