The garbage collecting vehicles are collecting garbage from only about 60 to 70 per cent area on average in each ward under the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). The Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar stated this during the inspection of the Integrated Waste Management Control room held on Wednesday. He expressed disappointment over the inefficient work and instructed the officials concerned to increase the coverage area to 100 per cent. He also directed them to ensure regular operation of vehicles and rickshaws in all wards to collect garbage, especially in narrow colonies.

Kumar also checked the route coverage of garbage collecting vehicles in Gandhigram, Rajpur Road and Brahmpuri wards. He also asked the officials to present a report of the area covered by rickshaws plying for garbage collection in all wards every evening. He also directed them to ensure effective daily monitoring and act accordingly to ensure efficient sanitation across the city. In the Integrated Waste Management Control Room, the officials can monitor the movement of the vehicles working for MCD through GPS. At present, 204 vehicles with installed GPS are involved in door-to-door garbage collection which is monitored from the control room.

The commissioner also directed to install an additional big screen in the control room. He also asked the officials to work on motivating people to adopt waste segregation practices before disposing of their garbage via door-to-door garbage collection service.
