The members of the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) will ring bells outside the residences of the Members of Parliament from August 1 to 9 to press for their demand for restoration of OPS. The programme is part of the nationwide call given by the NMOPS for the employees to hold protests outside residences of MPs to pressurise them to support their demand for restoration of OPS.

The Uttarakhand president of NMOPS, Jeetmani Painyuli said in the meeting of the national executive in New Delhi on March 6 it was decided to hold Ghanti Bajao programme outside the residences of the MPs from August 1 to 9. He said that all the district units of the NMOPS have been asked to prepare a strategy to organise the protest outside the houses of MPs and whenever the MPs are in their residence between August 1 and 9.

Painyuli said that a rally is planned on October 1 in New Delhi in which government employees from all parts of the country would participate. He said that October 1 holds significance for the employees since on this date in the year 2005, the OPS was abolished and New Pension Scheme (NPS) was started for the employees. He claimed that thousands of employees from Uttarakhand would participate in the mega rally in Delhi.

It is worth mentioning here that there are more than 80,000 government employees, teachers and officers currently under the NPS in Uttarakhand.
