Voting for Bageshwar Assembly by-election on September 5

 The voting for by-election in the Bageshwar Assembly constituency will be held on September 5. The Election Commission of India issued the notification for the by-election on Tuesday. The by-elections will be held in seven Assembly constituencies spread in various States.  The Bageshwar by-election has been necessitated due to the death of sitting MLA and cabinet minister Chandan Ram Dass.

 As per the election commission, the gazette notification for the by-election will be issued on August 10 with which the process of filing of nomination papers will start. The last date for submitting nomination papers is on August 17 while on August 18 , the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be done. August 21 will be the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers. The voting will be held on September 5. The election commission will use Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) and Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) in the by-elections. The counting of votes will be done on  September 8 and the result will be declared on the same day. 

In the Assembly election held in the year 2022, Chandan Ram Dass of the BJP had retained the Bageshwar reserved Assembly seat by defeating his nearest rival  Ranjeet Das of Congress party by a margin of 12,141 votes. The BJP candidate had secured 32,211 votes against 20,070 received by the Congress candidate. Interestingly, Basant Kumar of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had managed to secure 16,109 votes in the contest.
