Says that unity of leaders of U’khand Congress is need of the hour

The leader of opposition (LoP) in State assembly Yashpal Arya has said that during his recent visit to Uttarakhand senior leader of Congress and central observer PL Punia has given a firm message of unity to all the Congressmen of Uttarakhand.

Interacting with The Pioneer at his residence here on Tuesday, Arya said that Punia held elaborate discussion with the leaders and workers of Congress party and he emphasised that all the leaders should put up their issues in the party forum. He expressed confidence that the exercise undertaken by the central leadership of the party to address the issues in the State Congress would yield results.  Arya said that the recent time has been hard for the Congress party and during this time it is all the more important to put up a united fight against the divisive politics. He said that the municipal elections would be held in this year and the party should show its strength in these elections.

On the consistent claims of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami that Uttarakhand would become a leading State of the country by the year 2025, Arya said that the ground reality is totally different from the lofty claims. He said that the State government is not able to spend a major portion of the annual budget and the debt on the State which was Rs 35000 crore in the year 2017 has increased to more than Rs 1 lakh crore now.

“The economy is in shambles, the prices of everything are increasing and unemployment is rampant. In such a situation the claims of the Dhami government are nothing but an eyewash,’’ he said.

Arya said that no provision is made for infrastructure development of Gairsain which is the summer capital of Uttarakhand. Launching an attack on the State government the LoP said that Char Dham Yatra is about to commence but the condition of roads continues to remain bad and the area around Joshimath town is still a danger zone. Arya said that the government has made a provision of Rs 1000 crore for relief and rehabilitation in Joshimath but no concrete plan yet has been made. He said that the law and order situation in the State is continuing to deteriorate. The name of the VIP in the Ankita Bhandari murder case is yet to be disclosed and the paper leak case which has been put in cold storage. He said that the corruption is rampant and the mafia are ruling the roost in the mining sector due to which the State is facing huge loss of revenue.
