Kejriwal withdraws petition at SC

The Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has withdrawn his petition from the Supreme Court in connection with his arrest by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in excise policy-linked money laundering case.  Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who represented the Delhi CM before a bench headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, said that since the remand proceedings before the trial court scheduled later in the day would be clashing with the hearing in the top court, the petitioner be allowed to withdraw the plea. He further told the apex court that Kejriwal would contest the remand proceedings before the trial court and then come back to the apex court with a fresh petition.

Notably, the move came after Justice Khanna had told Singhvi that a three-judge bench would hear Kejriwal’s petition during the day. Kejriwal had moved the Supreme Court after the Delhi High Court refused to grant protection to the AAP leader from ED’s actions followed by his arrest.
