A Language of Lies by Saugata Chakraborty might entice the reader with suspense till the end. Chakrabortyis a storyteller whose writings can take the readers through a whirlwind journey.

Chakraborty is currently a deputy general manager with the Reserve Bank of India. His first book of short stories ‘They Go to Sleep’ (2019) had been a ‘bestseller’ and of late been included in the undergraduate syllabus of a private university in Punjab. A former educator, public speaker and contributor to various magazines, he has been editing a Bengali webzine since February 2021.

Through this crime thriller novella, A Language of Lies the author has made an effort to present the readers with something extraordinary and special. The book reveals a story revolving around one Sean Brignac and the life of a confidence artist that he lives, impacting and changing the lives of some others too. The manner in which the sequence of events is unveiled can make the readers feel the thrill while going through this amazing novel. 

The storyline is mostly about the cons, which Sean Brignac carried out in different parts of the world. The book covers the story of a real-life fraudster whose life has been filled with varied tragedies at a very young age. Sean Brignac (name changed) was orphaned at the age of five and disowned by his adoptive parents at seventeen. The storyline of this novel captures his rise as an illustrious con artist; his lies, insecurities, attempts at establishing meaningful relationships, and the inevitable fall, while putting under scanner the role of his friends, collaborators, and his victims.

Through this book the authorhas attempted to bring a feel of the landscape of the crimes which will compel the readers to go page by page. The narration covers many facets from manipulations to thrills to suspense and a blend of emotions too. The result is a storyline that is engrossing and interesting. The storytelling is lucid enough to keep the reader enticed till thelast page of this novel.
