A major fire broke out in the warehouse of a paper mill in Roorkee’s Narsan area of Haridwar in the wee hours of Sunday causing the destruction of paper and other products worth about Rs one crore. The officials informed that a sudden fire broke out in the raw material kept in the mill’s warehouse at around 3 am on Sunday. The workers working in the mill allegedly noticed it and tried to extinguish it but failed. They then called the mill’s management who called the authorities. The fire had spread drastically by the time fire tenders reached the spot. Over nine firefighting vehicles were called to control the fire from all sides.

However, due to the paper’s fast-combusting nature, the fire spread rapidly, posing a significant challenge for firefighters in dousing the fire, the officials said. The fire personnel finally brought the fire under control in about six hours. The officials said that their top priority was to bring the massive fire under control after which they conducted a thorough assessment of the damages. No casualties were reported in the incident. The authorities are yet to find the cause of the fire and the matter is under investigation, they added.
