PM’s Kedarnath Visit; CM reviews preparations

Dhami meets Teerth Purohits, gives them assurances

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami went to Kedarnath Dham on Wednesday to check the preparedness for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit scheduled on Friday. He paid obeisance at the temple and sought blessings of the deity. The CM also inspected the reconstruction activities at Kedarnath.

During the visit Dhami also held talks with the representatives of the Teerth Purohits and the stakeholders. The CM assured the delegation that the dignity of the Teerth Purohits would be maintained and the state government respects the public and religious sentiments. The CM said that the government is committed to respect the religious sentiments and the dignity of the Purohits.

Teerth Purohits would welcome Modi- Dhami

The visit of the CM Dhami assumes significance in the wake of the protest faced by former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat during his Kedarnath visit on Monday. The Teerth Purohits blocked the way of Rawat in protest against the contentious Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board Act due to which he had to return back from Kedarnath without having the Darshan.

The protest set alarm bells ringing and the authorities geared themselves to prevent repetition of the event during the PM’s visit. When asked about the possibility of any protest, the CM told the media persons that there would be no protest and the Teerth Purohits would welcome the PM. He said that the PM has a special faith and devotion for Kedarnath and he has a vision to develop Uttarakhand as the spiritual capital of the world. He said that for the first time in recent history projects of such scale have been undertaken in Kedarnath. Dhami said that the works of the first phase have been completed while the second phase would start.

Cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat and Subodh Uniyal accompanied the CM during the visit.
