Schools with less than five students in mountainous &  10 in plain areas would be closed and merged with nearby schools

The State’s Education department has decided to close the schools with less student enrolments. The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has directed the department to merge the government primary schools with fewer students with the nearby schools or Atal Utkrisht Vidhyalayas. As per the directive the schools with less than five students would be closed in the mountainous areas while in the plain areas the schools having less than 10 students would come under the category of closure. The minister has directed the officials of the department to provide the data of the schools which are coming under the category of closure. It is estimated that there are about 1,500 such schools in the State which come under this category (less than five students in mountainous areas and less than ten in plain regions).

The Additional Director (AD) of Primary Education, SP Khali told The Pioneer that the department has sought data from all the districts and soon it would be compiled and sent to the State administration. Apart from closing the schools with fewer students the Education department is also working on a plan to deploy at least two teachers in every primary school of the State. While presiding over a meeting of the officers at the education directorate on Thursday, the minister directed that the system of single teacher in schools should be done away with. He said that in the eventuality of the teacher taking a leave, the students of such schools suffer.
