Haridwar police seize and destroy 10,000 litres of spirit

Police used drones to locate the illicit liquor hidden in forest

The Haridwar police on Tuesday confiscated and destroyed 10,000 litres of spirit (alcohol) hidden in a base built between the forest and a drain in Laksar with the help of a drone. The senior superintendent of police of Haridwar, Ajai Singh informed that the Haridwar police have been investigating those involved in producing illicit liquor by setting up camps near major drains and forests to stay hidden from authorities to carry out their illegal business. He said that a drone camera was used to locate storage of 10,000 litres of spirit in Laksar which was later seized and destroyed by the police. The police have also seized a large amount of equipment used to prepare alcohol from the site. The SSP said that the police have taken action against two accused under Goonda Act on the matter- Santarpal Singh and Monu Singh, both locals of Laksar. He said that the police have been using modern technologies to nab the criminals in recent times and the police would conduct more such raids in the interior areas to unveil such illegal activities. He said that police are working in identifying people carrying out such illegal activities across the district.
