In latest news from Uttarakhand, the GST department team raided a house in the Mohalla Kanungoyan in Roorkee town where banned polythene were hoarded. The owner of the seized items was made to pay Rs one lakh as penalty, the department officers said. Once the civic body of the town came to learn about the raid it too sprang into action and sent teams to seize polythene items. However, it met with little success as the GST team had already conducted a big operation, prodding the hoarders and others on the alert. A senior GST officer A K Singh said that aside from collecting the penalty from the polythene hoarder, they had initiated investigation and after the investigation is completed, they might go for bigger actions against stockpiling and using of the prohibited polythene.
