Former ideologue of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), KN Govindacharya will now embark on save Yamuna campaign. Govindacharya has announced that he will begin Save Yamuna Yatra from August 28 from Janaki Chatti a small hamlet near Yamunotri under the banner of Rahtriya Swabhiman Yatra. The march will conclude at Prayagraj on September 14. He will interact with the stakeholders in the towns and cities along the river Yamuna on the way to discuss the environmental friendly developmental model that can be taken up to save the Yamuna river.

Govindacharya said that the Covid pandemic has conveyed to the whole world the fact that nature-centric development is the right model of development. The real strength of India is nature and environment and ignoring this is inviting natural calamities. He also said that the large dams on river Yamuna would harm the environment. The campaign media coordinator Vivek Tyagi said that during the yatra he will interact with people from different fields working constructively on nature-based development model and compile all the findings to be brought up in public domain later.

It will be recalled that in the past, Govindacharya had participated actively in 2006 and 2008 in the campaign to keep the Ganga river free and flowing. He undertook a yatra to the sites on the banks of Ganga River from September 1 to October 2 during 2010 to Gangasagar.
