Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the State administration to ensure that at least one woman Sub Inspector (SI) is deployed in every police station of the State. He ordered that women cells should also be set up in every police station and emphasised on the importance of public participation to prevent crimes against women. The CM gave the orders while presiding over a meeting on women safety and empowerment at the State secretariat on Saturday.

In the meeting held in the backdrop of the Ankita Bhandari murder case and the environment of anger in the society over the incident, the CM curtly told the officers that prompt and timely action should be taken in the cases related to crime against women in the State and there should be no lacuna in the investigation. He also stressed on the need for effective advocacy of such cases in the courts so that the culprits do not become scot free.  On a stern note, Dhami said that such an environment should be created in the State so that no one dares to even think about committing any crime.

The CM directed the officers that the police should be in contact with the organisations associated with the women and the system should be such which induces confidence in the women so that they can register their complaints without any hesitation. He said that apart from prompt action on complaints, regular feedback from the women complainants should be taken. He also directed that a list containing the names of the criminals should be uploaded on the website of the Police.

He said that monitoring at the level of district magistrates should be done in the cases related to crime against women and any shortcoming in investigation and advocacy should be quickly removed. In the meeting the CM was told that 92 per cent complaints registered in the CM helpline in the last ten months have been disposed of.

Senior officers of administration and police were present in the meeting.
