The district administration has directed the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to take action against the multi-storey houses built without the maps being approved in Jakhan area of Dehradun. The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has also been asked to remove the illegal encroachments from the area. Some locals and the councillor of Jakhan visited the district magistrate R Rajesh Kumar on Tuesday and complained about illegal construction of malls, hotels and shops in the name of housing development in the area. They alleged that land mafia in Jakhan have been cutting trees and eliminating green parks for illegal commercial establishments with the help of some officials from the departments concerned. One of the municipal councillors Bhupendra Kathait said that such illegal constructions have started causing traffic jams and sewage of such buildings also flows on the roads.  He said that taking cognisance of the complaint, the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Manish Kumar along with the officials of Housing and Urban Development Authority, MDDA and MCD inspected the area and gave them directions to take action against the said irregularities. He directed the MDDA to impose penalties on multi-storey houses built without the approval of maps and submit its report to the administration. The SDM also ordered the MCD officials to remove the encroachment from the area within two days. Kathaith said that such illegal practices have been done under the nose of authorities but it took them so long to take some action on the matter. Councilors along with locals will stage a massive protest if the administration fails to conduct an unbiased investigation of the matter, added Kathait.
