Police station in-charges to face action for inaction against source of illegal drugs

The Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar said on Friday that the police station in-charges will face action if they fail to act against the source of illegal drugs found in their respective areas. He said that the police in-charges across the State will also be held accountable if the State level Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) seizes illicit drugs in their respective police station areas.

The police headquarters (PHQ) will also review ANTF’s work to monitor its progress at local, district and State levels every month. Kumar said this in a video conference with all district in-charges and officials concerned on Friday. He said that a three-tier ANTF has been constituted at the state, district and police station level to achieve the target of making the State drugs-free by 2025 and he wants every personnel to adopt a zero tolerance policy towards drugs to achieve this goal. He said that it is the moral responsibility of all police station in-charges to prevent drug abuse in their respective areas. He directed the officials to identify the criminals and mafia involved in drug peddling and take effective action against them under relevant acts. He also directed to confiscate the property of such criminals that they acquired illegally.

The DGP asked the officials to deploy dedicated and capable police personnel in ANTF to tackle drug-related cases. He said that strict action will be taken against those police personnel found to be involved with those associated with drug smuggling across the State.
