Develop Navodaya Vidyalayas as centres of excellence: Raturi

Chief secretary Radha Raturi said Navodaya Vidyalayas should be established as centres of excellence in the State. She said this in the meeting of the expenditure finance committee of the proposed Rajiv Gandhi Navodaya residential school at Diwarikhol in Uttarkashi and Tilwara in Rudraprayag. She told officials to start the tender process soon by taking approval from NABARD in relation to these projects. Along with the construction of buildings of these schools, she also issued instructions to approve the recruitment of various staff, make arrangements for furniture and other aspects. Raturi told the executing agency Irrigation Department and BRIDCUL to arrange all the necessary facilities for disabled children in these schools, install rain water harvesting system, solar panels and solar lights and water heaters with the help of UREDA. 

The chief secretary also directed that proper arrangements should be made for the solid waste management system, kitchen garden and composting arrangements in these schools.  Along with this, WiFi facilities should be provided in these schools for the convenience of the students and for online education. Guest rooms should also be provided for parents coming to meet their children. She directed the officials to complete the construction of these two schools within 18 months.
