Yuva Mahotsav to start in U’Khand on January 5

The Yuva Mahotsav will commence in the State from January 5 ahead of the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekanand. The Sports and Youth Welfare minister Rekha Arya said this while chairing a review meeting held here on Thursday.

In the review meeting Arya instructed the officials to prepare guidelines for the Yuva Mahotsav. Arya said that in addition to the Mahotsav, programmes will be organised on January 12 to celebrate the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is observed as National Youth Day.

The Yuva Mahotsav will consist of competitive and non-competitive events. Under the competitive programmes, various activities such as group folk dance, group folk song, solo folk dance, solo folk song, classical dance, classical singing, classical music, story writing and poster/painting competitions will be conducted across all districts of the State, as well as for teams that register directly through the designated portal. Competitions related to Yoga practice, photography and speech will also be organised, she said.

The minister added that as part of the non-competitive programme, all universities and schools in Dehradun have been invited to showcase various cultural programmes. The Central government has assigned the theme of “Youth as Job Creator” for this year’s Yuva Mahotsav. The Yuva Mahotsav will feature stalls displaying handicrafts, textiles and agro products by youth and self-help groups. In addition, there will be a food festival showcasing local traditional and fusion cuisine. Further, Arya highlighted that the Yuva Mahotsav will also include programmes related to career counselling, an employment fair and skill gap analysis tailored to the needs of the State’s industries. Competitions for traditional costumes and musical instruments of the State will also be organised at the Mahotsav, Arya said.
