In view of the severe shortage of power, the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) has appealed to the consumers to adopt power saving measures. In a message the managing director (MD) of the corporation Anil Kumar said that due to shortage of coal, sudden increase in the international price and instability in the northern regional grid, the state is passing through a situation of power crisis. He appealed that people should use the electric appliances judiciously and should keep the setting of Air Conditioner (AC) at 24 degree Celsius only.

The AC, fans, coolers should not be kept running when not required and the lights should not be kept unnecessarily switched on during the day time. The UPCL MD said that the parents should also make their children aware against the misuse of power.

It is pertinent to mention here that Uttarakhand is facing a daily shortfall of 16.57 MU of power. On April 29 the state had an estimated demand of 47.49 MU against which the total availability of power from the central and state pool is 30.92 MU.
