Though taboo is associated with menstruation a resident of Udham Singh Nagar celebrated his daughter’s first period to set an example. Recently the father, Jitendra Bhatt celebrated his daughter’s first period to break the taboo. He said that many people still considered periods as an impure thing. Along with this, many people are still unaware of menstruation. He added that these factors made him celebrate his daughter’s first period. Experts point out that it is a unique initiative which will impact society in many positive ways. Every individual must break narrow-minded thinking towards menstruation, the experts said.

Talking to The Pioneer, founder of Humans for Humanity, Anurag Chauhan said, “I must say, such a step in the society will really break the narrow thinking of people on periods, which had become a taboo for many years. However, it is very common in many cultures where people celebrate the first periods of daughters. Earlier we have seen many celebrities who have raised awareness about menstruation. However, this example set by a common citizen is something which will not only raise the awareness but also motivate the other citizens to take periods as an essential and normal thing in life.”

Neuropsychologist Dr Sona Kaushal Gupta said, “I would like to appreciate the father for taking such a good initiative. This initiative will directly influence other people to think positively about periods. There are many programmes conducted by the government to raise awareness about menstruation. But I can say, such actions done by the common citizen will influence society directly. However, everything in the world has both positive and negative impacts. I would suggest every individual to break their narrow-minded bars and consider periods as a normal thing.”
