STF nabs smuggler with smack worth Rs 52 lakh

The anti-narcotics task force (ANTF) of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) arrested a drug smuggler from Haridwar with 55 grammes of smack worth Rs 52 lakh. The smack was purportedly meant to be supplied in educational institutes of Dehradun, said the STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal. He said that the ANTF in a joint operation with local police arrested the accused from Haridwar’s Shyampur area during checking late on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Amit Kumar (37) who resided in the Patelnagar area of Dehradun. The accused has told the authorities that he had brought 55 grammes of smack from Bareilly which he sells through his peddlers in Patel Nagar and nearby schools and colleges in Dehradun.

The SSP said that the accused has also mentioned the names of several peddlers during interrogation and action will be taken against them as well. He said that cases are also registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Dalanwala and Patelnagar police stations. Agrawal said that ANTF has been acting against drug smugglers throughout the year across the State.

He said that the STF’s ANTF has arrested 42 drug smugglers with illegal drugs worth Rs 2.52 crore so far this year. “In the past eight months, ANTF arrested 42 major drug smugglers and recovered illegal drugs like two kilogrammes of smack, 23 kilogrammes of hashish, seven kilogrammes of opium, 1,500 injectable drugs besides 17 lakh fake antibiotics and 4.5 lakh narcotic medicines, capsules and pills. The total value of these drugs is about Rs 2.52 crore,” said SSP.
