Delay in scholarships; NSUI holds protest in Doon

Agitated at the delay in disbursement of scholarships for the students of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) and OBC, the members of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) held a protest at the head office of the social welfare department in dehradun here on Monday. The members of the students wing assembled at the Congress Bhawan on the day and marched to the office of the department at Survey Chowk where they held a protest. The NSUI leaders also submitted a memorandum to the social welfare officer on the occasion.

The president of the state unit of NSUI, Mohan Bhandari said that the poor students of SC, ST and OBC are provided scholarships by the social welfare department but the students are yet to receive the scholarships of 2019-20. He said that the students are already facing financial problems due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the non payment of the scholarships has aggravated their problems. Bhandari said that the government has money for its advertisements but has nothing to pay the students.

The state in charge of NSUI, Satbir Chaudhary said that the NSUI would continue its agitation till the government releases the pending scholarships. He added that the NSUI is committed to the welfare of the students.
