Covid cases in Uttarakhand, positivity rate increasing

24 new patients reported on Wednesday, positivity rate rises to 1.42 %

The increasing trend in the number of Covid-19 cases in Uttarakhand is continuing. Incidentally Dehradun district is showing a rapid increase in the cases and is accounting for almost 80 per cent of total cases in the state. The increase in the positivity rate which was at 1.42 per cent on Wednesday is also a warning signal for the authorities.

The State Health department reported 24 new patients of the Covid-19 in the state on Wednesday. Death of no patient was reported from in the state on the day.  The authorities also declared 27 patients cured from the disease on Wednesday.  The department has so far detected 92,352 new cases of the disease from January 1 this year till date. A total of 88,775 patients have recovered from the disease so far in this year while 275 patients have died in the state since January 1 this year. The recovery percentage of the disease was at 96.13 per cent on Wednesday. The positivity rate of the disease was reported at 1.42 per cent on the day.   The health department reported 18 new patients from Dehradun, three from Nainital, two from Chamoli and one from Pauri on Wednesday.

The active case count of Covid-19 in the state is now at 80.  Dehradun with 46 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Haridwar has 22 active cases of the disease. Almora, Pithoragarh, Tehri and Uttarkashi districts have no active cases of the disease. In the ongoing vaccination drive 19,128 people were vaccinated in 853 sessions in the state held on Wednesday.

It is pertinent to mention here that at a time when the State government is preparing to facilitate the Char Dham Yatra after a gap of two years, the rise in infection also provides a cause for concern. Since the Yatra was affected by Covid-19 during the past two years, a record number of pilgrims are expected to visit the Char Dham shrines this year with about two lakh registrations already being done.
