A day after reiterating the official claim that all preparations have been done to bring the third wave of Covid-19 under control without difficulty, chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat directed the officials concerned to ensure that all preparations are completed in the districts to tackle a possible third wave of Covid-19. He said this while chairing a video conference to review the Covid-19 and vaccination status of the state on Friday. He directed officials to ensure the adequate availability of oxygen beds and ICU beds in the districts. Ambulances should also be arranged for places identified as vulnerable to disaster considering the monsoon. Rawat said that oxygen beds, ICU beds and ventilators will have to be increased further in Dehradun and Haldwani. He said that when Covid reaches its peak the number of patients rises rapidly in Dehradun and Haldwani.

A few days after being severely pulled up by the high court which questioned the state government’s preparations for the third wave, the chief minister directed officials to arrange for medicines and masks and other equipment for children. Regarding vaccination, Rawat said that people should be motivated consistently so that vaccination can be speeded up. The senior citizens and disabled persons who have not been vaccinated completely yet should be identified and camps should be facilitated by district magistrates to vaccinate such citizens.

Chief secretary Om Prakash said that testing and other facilities should be ensured at the border considering the scope for further crowding when the Covid-curfew is lifted in the future. The distribution of Ivermectin should be completed by June 30, he added.
