Campaign on protection of children’s rights to be held in Nainital

Acting on the direction of the chairperson of Nainital District Legal Services Authority Sujata Singh, a 15-day campaign will be conducted on the subject of protection of children’s rights from October 5 to 19 in Nainital.

According to the officials concerned, the programme will be focused on the implementation of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) Scheme 2015.  Notably, the NALSA Scheme 2015 has initiated children friendly legal services and their protection. The campaign for the protection of children’s rights will be jointly conducted by the education department, police, administration and social welfare department among others. Through this programme, these departments are expected to raise awareness regarding crimes like child labour, child marriage and child trafficking. Besides, awareness would be raised on the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the punishments it entails.  

Awareness campaign will be done through rallies, camps and street plays, the officials in charge of the upcoming programme said. Besides, under this campaign, slogan and poster competitions will be organised in schools and observation homes to motivate the children. Furthermore, during the campaign a medical camp will also be held for health check-ups of children.

Importantly, the Uttarakhand State Legal Aid Cell on Child Rights has been established in Haridwar district for Garhwal division and in Udham Singh Nagar district for Kumaon division.
