The Bharatiya Janata Party government is committed to facilitating 30 per cent horizontal reservation for women with State domicile in the posts under the purview of the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC). Stating this, the BJP State spokesman Ravinder Jugran said that further action will be ascertained after studying the high court order in which it had ordered a stay on the government order providing the 30 per cent horizontal reservation. He said that at present, the State government has kept all the options open to maintain the horizontal reservation for women. The State government is also considering approaching the Supreme Court to quash the stay ordered by the Uttarakhand high court on the 30 per cent horizontal reservation for women with State domicile. He further said that the government could also bring in an ordinance. The government will make all possible efforts to ensure that the women continue to receive 30 per cent horizontal reservation. Jugran said, “From the constitutional point of view Article 15 (3) has provision for making laws for women and children. Apart from this, the women in the border state of Uttarakhand are vital in its development, social and economic activities. There are various practical and other logical aspects in favour of providing the 30 per cent horizontal reservation to them,” said the BJP State spokesman.
