Average vehicle speed in Doon better than Bengaluru and Pune

The average vehicle speed in Dehradun city is 26 kilometres per hour (kmph) which is better than the average speed of 18 kmph in Bangalore and Pune. According to the data provided by the traffic directorate, an international organisation from Denmark Tom Tom has released traffic index statistics 2022 for India as per which the average time taken to cover a distance of 10 kilometres in Bengaluru is 29 minutes 10 seconds while the average time taken to cover a distance of 10 kilometres in Pune is 27 minutes 20 seconds.

The average speed of vehicles in Bengaluru and Pune is 18 kmph, as per the statistics. To know the average speed of vehicles in Dehradun city, the director of the traffic directorate, Mukhtar Mohsin also assessed the speed from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) with the help of Sensor A and Sensor B installed at the intersections of Dehradun. In Sensor A, the average speed of vehicles in 27 routes of Dehradun was found to be 21 kmph.

These routes included Prince Chowk- Tehsil Chowk, Prince Chowk- Railway Station, Dwarika Store- Araghar Chowk, Clock Tower- Prabhat Cinema, Clock Tower- Darshan Lal Chowk, ISBT- Shimla Bypass Chowk, Subhashnagar Chowk- ISBT,  Subhash Nagar Chowk- RTO Check Post, ISBT- Asharodi, ISBT- Kargi Chowk and Saharanpur Chowk- Prince Chowk. In sensor B, the average speed of vehicles in 24 routes of Dehradun was found to be 31 kmph. These 24 routes include Clock Tower m- Orient chowk, IMA Blood Bank- Ballupur Chowk, FRI- Premnagar, FRI- Ballupur Chowk, Panditwadi- IMA, Panditwadi- FRI, EC Road- Survey Chowk, Bindal junction- Yamuna Colony, Bindal junction- Clock Tower, Araghar Chowk- Dwarka Store and Income Tax junction- Dharampur Chowk. 

The directorate stated that comparing the data collected through Sensor A and Sensor B with Denmark’s report clearly shows that the average vehicle speed in Dehradun city is quite better than in Bangalore and Pune.
