The Uttarakhand high court has directed the Motherhood Ayurveda Medical College and hospital in Roorkee to facilitate internship for students who have completed their BMS studies. The college had not permitted internship to the students lest they deposited fees according to the hiked rates.  The court has also ordered the college to enable second semester students wanting to appear in back-papers to sit in the examinations starting from May 10.

According to the case details, Motherhood Ayurveda Medical College student Ajay and others had filed a petition in the high court stating that they were to undergo internship in January 2022. However, the college administration said that their registration papers would be sent to the medical council for the internship if they deposited the hiked fees of Rs 2.15 lakh per student. The students contended that they had deposited fees as decided earlier and according to the orders passed by the court in the past. The single bench of justice Sharad Kumar Sharma had called the medical council registrar and a representative of the college management to the court. On Monday, the court passed its order in favour of the students and directed that their internship be facilitated. In another matter related to this college, BMS fourth semester students Abhishek and others had submitted in their petition that they have to appear in their second semester back papers taking place from May 10. However, the college administration was asking them to deposit the hiked fees in order to allow them to sit in the back papers whereas they had paid the fixed fees earlier. For now the court has directed the students to pay Rs 25,000 per student while also directing the medical council and college management to fill the back paper forms of the students and issue them admission papers on Monday itself so that they are able to appear for the back papers from May 10.
