Derogatory remark on Hridayesh; Cong wants FIR against Bhagat

Congressmen to take to streets if no action against Bhagat is taken: Pritam

Taking a stern note on the derogatory comment on leader of opposition (LoP) Indira Hridayesh made by the state BJP president Bansidhar Bhagat, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that FIR should be lodged against Bhagat.

A delegation of Congress led by the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh met the Director General (DG) of police,  Ashok Kumar on Wednesday and submitted a complaint against Bhagat.

Later addressing the media persons at Rajiv Bhawan,Dehradun  Pritam Singh said that he is personally feeling offended by the demeaning remark made by Bhagat and submitted a complaint on his own to the police. The police should lodge a FIR against Bhagat as per the provisions and act accordingly, he said. Singh warned that the party would hit the roads if no action is taken against Bhagat.

The PCC president said that the Congress party strongly condemns the utterances of Bhagat on Indira Hridayesh. “ Indiraji has achieved a position in politics and everyone irrespective of party affiliations respects her. She has a very rich experience of parliamentary processes and whenever she speaks in the assembly everyone listens to her attentively. The comment made by Bhagat is an insult of Matrishakti of the state and everyone is offended by it. The comment also reflects the character of the BJP state president,’’ he said.

The PCC president said that it is appreciable that the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has expressed regret on the remark of Bhagat but added that the CM should have also expressed regret when a BJP MLA had made insulting remarks about the people of Uttarakhand. He said that the CM should have expressed regret when a woman party worker of BJP had complained that the general secretary (Organisation ) of BJP had harassed her. The PCC president said that the state administration took no note of the complaint made by a woman in which she claimed that a BJP MLA had sexually harassed her and she had a daughter from him. He said that it was the court who took cognizance of the plea of the victim and ordered that a DNA test of the MLA and the girl should be done.

The vice president of Uttarakhand Congress Surya Kant Dhasmana, RP Raturi, Rajendra Shah, Garima Dasauni, Mahesh Joshi and others were present on the occasion.
