Sports minister Rekha Arya said that the organisation of the 38th National Games has fostered a new environment for sports in the State and awareness about sports has significantly increased among the youth following the success of this event. She said this during the inauguration of a mini stadium here on Thursday.
Arya stated that the construction of the mini stadium cost about Rs 2.92 crore. She said that earlier, residents of the State primarily requested their representatives to focus on building infrastructure such as roads, electricity, drinking water, hospitals and schools. However, there has been a noticeable increase in demand for sports facilities, reflecting a growing awareness and interest in sports among the public.
She further emphasised that this shift indicates a strong commitment from both the youth and the general public in aligning with the State government’s goal to develop the area as a sports hub. Over the past few years, the State has been cultivating a sports culture, aided by the continuous establishment of sports grounds and mini stadiums in smaller towns and cities, she said.
The Sports minister also announced that the government has initiated two player incentive schemes, providing financial assistance to athletes aged eight to 14 years and those aged 14 to 23 years. This initiative aims to nurture and support emerging talent across various sports, she added.
