Covid-19 scare in Doon; 11 IFS officers found positive in IGNFA

Eleven officers of the Indian Forest Services (IFS) who recently arrived in the prestigious Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA) here have been found positive for Covid-19. These officers had arrived  for their midterm training in the academy on Wednesday. An alarmed administration has set up a micro containment zone in the academy and has kept the infected officers in isolation. The district disaster management officer of Dehradun, Deepshikha Bhatt told The Pioneer that the micro containment zone has been made in the academy. She said that all the officers found positive for Covid-19 had received both shots of the vaccine. Bhatt added that the health department has also started contact tracing of the infected officers.

The news of the IFS officers found positive for Covid-19 sent shock waves among more than 1200 employees and their families residing in the sprawling campus of Forest Research Institute (FRI) where the IGNFA is located.

It is worth mentioning here that the first case of Covid-19 in Uttarakhand was reported from FRI when in March last year three trainees of IFS were found infected with the disease. 

Meanwhile the state health department reported eight new cases and 31 recoveries of the disease on Thursday. No death from the disease was reported in the state on the day. On Wednesday the department had reported 25 new cases of the disease.

The cumulative count of Covid-19 patients in the state is now at 3,43,156 while a total of 3,30,432 patients have recovered from the disease so far. In the state, 7407 people have lost their lives to Covid -19 virus till date. The recovery percentage from the disease is at 96.01 per cent while the sample positivity rate on Thursday was 0.12 per cent. 

The state now has 157 active cases of Covid-19. Dehradun with 111 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Rudraprayag and Bageshwar have no active cases of the disease now.

In the ongoing vaccination drive 61,243 people were vaccinated in 1051 sessions in the state held on Thursday.
