The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the State government will always be fully committed to ensuring the safety of girls. He stated this during a programme in which 318 meritorious girls were presented with certificates and smartphones on the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhami emphasised that the Central and State Governments, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are actively working towards women empowerment. He stated that those who harm our daughters have no place in Uttarakhand or the society. As the chief minister of the state, he considers it a personal insult to witness any disrespect towards the daughters of Uttarakhand, he added.
He further assured that strict action will be taken against individuals who engage in such behaviour. Commenting further about the government schemes he said that several initiatives of the Central and State governments are being executed under the leadership of PM Modi aimed at enhancing the self-reliance and empowerment of women. In a recent development, the state government has decided to allocate 30 per cent of reservation in government jobs to women, Dhami said.
Additionally, during the programme, the chief minister also introduced the Parivartan Portal of the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department.
Speaking on the occasion, the WECD minister Rekha Arya highlighted the objective of National Girl Child Day which is to raise awareness among girls about their rights. The State government remains committed to consistently improving the educational, social and economic conditions for girls. Efforts are being made to educate the public about the various inequalities encountered by girls, promote awareness about their rights and emphasise the importance of girls education, health and nutrition.
She further stressed on the need for eradicating discrimination against both sons and daughters. “To achieve this, we must establish the groundwork within our families, ensuring that daughters receive the same level of respect and rights they rightfully deserve. These programmes strive to prevent different forms of discrimination against girls in society, promote awareness about the importance of girls in our country and put an end to the exploitation of girls,” she said.
