Reacting strongly to the statement made by the newly appointed chairman of Uttarakhand Waqf Board Shadab Shams on Piran Kaliyar, the chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that it appears that Shams has lost his mental balance. Piran Kaliyar is the Dargah of 13th century Sufi saint Alauddin Ali Ahmed Sabir Kalyari and is revered by Muslims.

The Congress leader said that Uttarakhand is known as Dev Bhoomi and apart from Char Dhams, the State has Nanak Matta and Piran Kaliyar. Dasauni said that Shams is claiming that drug dealings, human trafficking and flesh trade is going on in the Piran  Kaliyar area. She questioned why the BJP government which has been ruling the State for the last five and half years is unable to take any action if what Shams is saying is true. The Congress leaders said that the statement of Shams has offended the religious sentiments of lakhs of people who have faith in Piran Kaliyar.
